Zack and the 33z Racing team competed in the King of America V, March 26-28, at the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan. With two days and four total qualifying heat races, Zack finished 12th, 3rd, 2nd and 7th which, ironically, put him 33rd in points and a spot in the 20-lap “C” Main on Saturday. He finished 9th to advance to the “B” Main where he used a last-lap, last-corner pass to snag the 14th and final transfer spot into the $10,000-to-win, 100-lap “A” Main.
Once he got to the big dance, the Z-Man started to shine. After two days of struggles and a run through Saturday's alphabet soup of main events, he started 26th and picked off 18 cars during the course of the race to score an 8th place finish worth $1,700 and making him the hard charger of the event.
Zack has qualified for the “A” Main all five years of the King of America race, with a top-10 finish every year and three top-5 finishes, including runner-up in 2012.
A total of 82 cars and drivers were on hand for the three-day affair which will be broadcast to a national television audience this summer on MAVTV. Up next will be a couple shows in the IMCA Stock Car on Wednesday, April 1 and April 8 at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. The team will be back on the USMTS trail for a doubleheader on Friday, April 10, at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and Saturday, April 11, at the Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo.
