Zack VanderBeek and the Casey's General Stores 33z Racing team were back on the road this past Friday and Saturday, Aug. 21-22, for another Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup doubleheader in Kansas and Oklahoma.
On Friday, the series invaded the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and from beginning to end the historic half-mile was wet and hammer-down. This made a last-row draw in a stacked heat race even tougher and put the team in a hole they could never quite recover from. After using an emergency provisional to start the main event, VanderBeek was able to get by nine cars, but wound up 18th on the final score sheets.
On Saturday, rain washed out the event at the Salina Highbanks Speedway in Pryor Creek, Okla., so the team headed to the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo., for some USRA Modified action and left with a 12th-place finish.
The next show for the USMTS will happen Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa—the first of five straight nights of racing to celebrate the Labor Day Weekend.
