Vanderbeek begins new chapter this weekend at The Creek

NEW SHARON, Iowa -- After much difficult consideration, Zack VanderBeek and the 33z Racing team have decided to end our 10-year relationship with Skyrocket Chassis.

“It was undoubtedly the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my racing career,” said VanderBeek. “Kelly (Shryock) built us our first modified in 2004 and has been my mentor ever since. We are almost always parked side by side in the pits and, as a result, Kelly and his wife, Dawn, have become very much part of our family.

“My whole career I’ve been mentored by the best the USMTS has ever had and switching cars won’t diminish that fact. The majority of what I’ve learned running modifieds I owe to Kelly Shyrock. I’ve gone to victory lane 68 times in a Skyrocket, 21 of those were USMTS wins. Without Kelly Shyrock I don’t know where I’d be racing. I’ll never really be able to thank Kelly enough for all he has done for me, my family and my career.

“Why did we change? Strictly business. We took a close look at our results over the last two seasons and felt we needed a fresh start. Some may question changing cars days before the biggest race of the year but we’ve got a great opportunity to run a car from the Rowland Racing team so that’s what we’re going to do. It may look different but we’ll be back in the Casey’s colors shortly after the World Championship.”
