Vanderbeek nets two top-10 finishes at Featherlite Fall Jamboree

Zack VanderBeek and the 33z Racing team competed in the 17th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., this past Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 24-26, with a set of solid runs despite not returning home with a trophy.

On Thursday, ‘The Z-Man’ won the third heat race from the pole and started 11th in the main event where he finished eighth at the end of the 40-lapper. The finish solidified his spot in the top-5 in the final USMTS points for the 2015 campaign.

On Friday, he again won his heat race, this time from the fourth starting spot. He was part of what was one of the most exciting feature races in recent memory. Joe Duvall drew the pole for the main event but it was fellow front-row starter VanderBeek who got the jump at the start. After trading “slide jobs” for the first couple of laps, Duvall settled in up front with VanderBeek giving chase. The last half of the race VanderBeek was embroiled in a three-way battle with Brad Waits and Jason Cummins, eventually recording a stout sixth-place finish.

Saturday’s heat race draw wasn’t as kind as he started tenth and worked his way up to sixth. After winning his “B” Main, VanderBeek started 20th in the main event and that’s right where he wound up at the end of the 50-lapper.
